Worship and Music

It shall be the function of this committee to assist the Congregation Council in seeing that the services of God’s house are conducted regularly and in accordance with the liturgy of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, that ushers are recruited and trained, and that hymnals and other devotional materials are provided and properly cared for. This committee shall supervise and strive to advance the welfare and effective service of, the choirs of the congregation. It shall arrange for the care of paraments, vestments and musical instruments and, in consultation with the Pastor, the organist, the choir director(s), it shall furnish music supplies appropriate for use in the worship of a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. With the Pastor, the Worship and Music Committee shall assist this church’s music ministry.

Duties of Worship and Music Committee:

  1. Maintain hymnals, Bibles, and supplies in the hymn book racks in each pew
  2. Coordinate maintenance of paraments, vestments, linens, etc.
  3. Ensure that the paraments and banners are appropriate for the liturgical season
  4. Maintain communion supplies and coordinate communion ministry (preparing, clean up, bread baking)
  5. Coordinate acolytes, crucifers, banner bearers, Bible bearers, lay readers/communion assistants, and ushers for worship services
  6. Coordinate funeral ushers
  7. Coordinate training for acolytes, crucifers, banner bearers, Bible bearers, lay readers/communion assistants, and ushers
  8. Coordinate flower ministry, including funerals and special services
  9. Coordinate with Pastor(s) and church staff seasonal services and needs (Lent/Easter, Advent/Christmas)
  10. Provide guidance and support for the choirs and for the overall music ministry of the church
